1-14-11 Preds v Flyers, 4-2 Preds

This was HUGE fun!  We’ve been looking forward to seeing Flyers all season and it was really fun seeing them in Nashville since we can’t see them in Atlanta anymore.  It turned out to be more fun than we had hoped.

Went up on Friday nite like we usually do so we can run around in Nashville on Saturday; grabbed lunch at “Bar-B-Cutie, then went over to Opry Mills Theater and saw the movie “Contraband”, which was really good, then to the game.

It was coooooold up there this weekend and they had had some snow, so the arena was really cold tonite too.

On the way up, there was ice and snow on the ground when we stopped at a rest area.

This guy was so cute!   Blow Up Gnash

On to the game!   Being that we are also Flyers fans, and me, a goalie lover, I had a blast watching Bobrovsky and Bryzgalov warming up and then Bryz played.

Another BIGGIE was getting to see JAGR!  He came out and skated by himself incognito before the game, testing out his leg, and then signed things for the kids hanging around the tunnel.   What a cool guy!

Some Flyers warmups.   During warmups Bryz and Bobs both shot a few pucks with the guys!    THAT was fun to watch!

I love watching goalies stretching.  They are amazing!

Bryz getting limber

There was a group of girls with “marry me” signs and Bobs was grinning as he was reading them

Bob is having a great time, or, this is painful, lol

Hartnell is definitely having his greatest year.

Briere and Bourdon

Kimmo Timonen!

Jaromir Jagr~  We love Jagr

Claude Giroux

Another Jagr fan.  Cool sign

Hartnell is letting his hair grow back

And looking pretty happy!

The Philadelphia Flyers don’t visit Nashville very often, and when they do they usually leave with a loss.

Pekka Rinne made 36 saves and Nick Spaling scored the game-winner as the Predators beat the Flyers 4-2 Saturday night. Martin Erat, Sergei Kostitsyn and Mike Fisher also scored for Nashville, which won its fourth straight and seventh in the last eight.

Nashville regained its two-goal advantage at 4:30 of the third when Jordin Tootoo’s centering pass deflected off the shaft of Spaling’s stick and past Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. The goal was Spaling’s third game-winner this season.

Simmonds pulled the Flyers to 3-2 at 9:55 as he outmuscled Nashville defenseman Ryan Ellis to get the rebound of Couturier’s backhand shot from the left circle and then poked the puck past Rinne.

Courtier scores on Pekka

Rinne made 15 saves in the first, 12 in the second, and nine in the third to record his 23rd win of the season.

Fisher / Hornqvist efforts pay off

Yeah, Boyz!

Erat gave Nashville a 1-0 lead with 57.7 seconds remaining in the opening period. From the right circle, Erat’s wrist shot bounced in front of Bryzgalov before skipping over the goalie’s right shoulder. Nashville’s Patric Hornqvist was just outside of the goal crease providing a screen for Erat’s shot, which gave him a goal in five of his last six games against the Flyers.

Kostitsyn made it 2-0 at 10:36 of the second. Just 10 seconds after a penalty to Philadelphia’s Brayden Schenn expired, Kostitsyn’s wrist shot from the high slot through traffic beat Bryzgalov high to the glove side.

Fisher’s empty-net goal with 39 seconds to go sealed the Predators’ win.  Celebration

C’Ya Flyers.   It was fun!

And, another Thrashers jersey in the cool restaurant across the street from the arena, post game.  We went over to grab a bite of dinner before heading back to the car.    I am leaving it sideways on purpose, because we former Thrashers are all a bit sideways over losing our team!

NOTES: Nashville rookie C Craig Smith missed his first game of the season due to a flu-like illness. … Fisher has points in four consecutive games. … Simmonds has points in three-straight games. … The Flyers are 7-2-2 against the Western Conference this season with both regulation losses coming against Central Division teams.

Three star selections
Winning Goaltender
Pekka Rinne
Losing Goaltender
Ilya Bryzgalov
