1/21/12 Preds v Blackhawks, 2-5 Preds

We had another really cool Ford Edge Limited for this trip.   What an awesome vehicle!  Those things could probably drive themselves and are loaded with the most amazing features.    This weekend, the heated seats came in reallllly handy!   Really felt good on the back.

What a great game night this turned out to be.   We did our usual heading up on Friday night starting by running over to Starbucks on the way out and visiting with one of our favorite little buddies, Kalia Denney, who is the sister to Sonya Bayne and hubby Travis Bayne.   These are such great friends and former Thrashers as well .   Kalia fixed us up with a great cup of coffee for the road, which was good because it was cold and raining and we had that 4 hour drive ahead of us, leaving at about 6p, after work.

This is Kalia the Kool, and she gave me her ok to use her pictures.     What a sweetie!

Worlds Greatest Barista:

Saturday it was FREEZING, as we did our usual running around, seeing a movie, this time we saw “The Iron Lady”, with Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher.   Really good movie.   Then, our pregame ritual has become Bar-B-Cutie, and then, game time.

Wow, heading into the arena there were red jerseys, everywhere!!!  And, they were chanting like Indians, making comments, etc., and we got to our seats and there were several around us.

Actually that headdress is really pretty!

I love this kid’s sign!   He must at least be a weekend STH because we see this sign every time we’re up there.

More class!  Not!   The one on the left points to the one on the right saying “She’s clueless, hockey virgin, first game”, and the one on the right says “Get in a fight, Go Blackhawks”.   Lordy!

This one was pretty cool!    Sorry about the wash out, I was taking ice pictures and flipped up to the jumbotron too quick

Gnash rappelled into the arena again!   And, I really wasn’t ready for him  😦

And, I thought this was cool!  The goalie lids against each other and they eventually crashed and burned into each other!

This was the first game that we’ve been to up at Preds that the opposing teams fans were just totally obnoxious and took the fun out of being in a hockey atmosphere, and when fans act like that, it’s just fun to watch them get their pucks handed to them.   I’m a total hockey so I love a wide variety of hockey teams and players, but Blackhawks fans think that they are higher on the totem pole than Canada!   Hey Chicago, it’s only one cup, and it’s really hard to two twice!   Especially twice in a row!

Another fun thing or two tonite was that I sorta met Kate Bennett Childers, who I now know thru Virginia, and is a Preds STH up there.   We were texting our thoughts on the game.  She was sitting up above us to the left and we could see each other and wave to each other.

And, our little neighbors said, hey, isn’t that Brian Setzer right to the left of us? Well, JB knows his music celebrities, so we checked it out and sure enough, there was Mr. Stray Cats with his daughter, about 10 seats to the left of us, about three rows down.    Our buddy went down and got his autograph, he was really nice.   Then during intermission he went up and bought himself a PREDS cap and his daughter a PREDS jersey!    (pictures below).

Pre-Preds hat!

New Preds hat and jersey for daughter

In his day!

Ken and Connye are our neighbors there sometimes, and this is Ken getting Brian’s autograph on his program

I was miffed because we’d traded out for another game, so we weren’t in our usual center ice seats and were behind the goal over Pekka’s left shoulder, so I wasn’t able to get as many shots as I’d have liked.   😦

Preds scored 5 goals, and anything over 4 goals and you get a free Wendy’s Frosty.   Sooo, we got the heck out of downtown Nashville because the Blackhawks fans had been taking in a LOT of alcohol during the game and were not thrilled with the outcome of the game, so we hit the Wendy’s and got our Frosty’s and headed for the hotel.  Yummmmm.  Nice ride home on Sunday in the “Edge”.

Thanks Kostitsyn!

After a rough night of winter travel, the Chicago Blackhawks had an equally tough time on the Nashville ice.  Because of snow in Chicago and a thunderstorm in Nashville, the Blackhawks didn’t arrive in town until 2:30 a.m.

Sergei Kostitsyn, Kevin Klein and Patric Hornqvist each had a goal and an assist to help the Nashville Predators beat the Blackhawks 5-2 on Saturday night.  The Predators have won seven of their last eight and 10 of 12. Nashville also ended Chicago’s winning streak at three. The Blackhawks had earned points in seven straight games.

Craig Smith and Colin Wilson also scored, and Pekka Rinne made 20 saves for Nashville. Rinne has won seven in a row and 10 of 11.

Marian Hossa scored twice for Chicago. He has five points in two games against Nashville this season.

Carrying the puck down the left side, Hossa slipped inside Nashville captain Shea Weber before cutting to the middle and sliding the puck under the Rinne’s left pad.  Hossa’s goal was one of just two Chicago shots on goal in the period.

Smith drew the Predators even with 2:41 left in the first.

With Nashville on a power play, Ryan Ellis fired a shot from the right point that goalie Corey Crawford stopped, but the rebound came to Smith on the right side where he flipped the puck over a sprawling Crawford.  It was the Nashville rookie’s 10th goal of the season, six of which have come on the power play.

Klein gave Nashville its first lead at 5:15 of the second when his seemingly harmless flip-in from the red line bounced in front of Crawford and then over his right shoulder. The goal was a frustrating one for Crawford to allow.

Wilson scored at 11:14 of the second and Kostitsyn followed with 3:57 to go to send Nashville into the second intermission with a 4-1 advantage. Kostitsyn’s goal spelled the end of the night for Crawford, who allowed four goals on 17 shots. He was replaced by Ray Emery.

Thanks for the Frosty Sergei!

See Ya Crawford

Hi Emery

Hossa and Hornqvist traded goals early in the third.

Chicago captain Jonathan Toews left midway through the second period with an upper-body injury. Following the game, Quenneville said Toews was day-to-day.
